Course Description

This course strengthens infection prevention and control knowledge for professionals working in cosmetic and aesthetic practice. It highlights evidence-based standards and practical measures that reduce infection risk, protect clients and practitioners, and support safe service delivery across a range of aesthetic procedures. The course is designed to help teams better understand procedure-related risk levels, routine safety measures, and response steps when exposures or infections occur.

Prerequisites / required prior knowledge

  • None required
  • Intended audience: Aesthetic practitioners and technicians, medical aesthetic professionals, clinic managers, salon or spa owners, and educators or trainers involved in cosmetic and aesthetic services.

  • Recommended: Familiarity with common cosmetic or aesthetic procedures, client workflow, and routine hygiene and safety responsibilities in outpatient or community-based practice.

Kamyab Ghatan

MD, AL-CIP™, CIC®, LTC-CIP®, DISIPC, CDIPC
Dr. Kamyab Ghatan is a medical doctor and infection prevention leader who develops practical, standards-based training for diverse environments, including acute and long-term care, ambulatory and dental clinics, veterinary practices, and construction/renovation settings. His work spans infection prevention, surveillance, water management, sterile processing, and implementation science, with a focus on translating standards into workflows teams can actually use. Dr. Ghatan is the founder of the International College of Infection Control Professionals (ICICP).

Learning objectives:

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the principles and regulatory expectations that govern infection prevention and control in cosmetic and aesthetic practice.

  • Differentiate between low-, moderate-, and high-risk aesthetic procedures based on the degree of invasiveness and required IPAC measures.

  • Apply evidence-based infection control techniques, including hand hygiene, PPE use, environmental cleaning, and instrument reprocessing, to common aesthetic procedures.
  • Identify signs of infection or exposure incidents and outline appropriate immediate response and documentation steps.
  • Evaluate infection control practices within the workplace or training environment and recommend improvements aligned with recognized standards.

Completion requirements:

Learners receive credit after viewing all required content, passing the post‑test/final assessment with a minimum score of 80% (up to three attempts), and submitting the course evaluation. If a learner does not achieve 80% within three attempts, they must re-do the course (re-complete required content) within their access period before attempting the assessment again. Upon successful completion, learners may download a certificate of completion.
