Student Code of Conduct (Student Behaviour)
1. Purpose
This Code of Conduct sets clear expectations for
professional, respectful, and safe behaviour for all students participating in
College programs and activities. It supports a learning environment consistent
with the values of infection prevention and control, professionalism, and
public safety

2. Scope
This Code applies to all students, prospective students, and visitors while they are participating in any College related activity, including (but not limited to):
- In‑person classes, labs, and on‑site activities
- Practicum/field activities (where applicable)
- Online learning environments (LMS, webinar platforms, discussion forums)
- Emails/messages and any communication with staff, peers, or placement sites
- College‑sponsored events and activities
3. Guiding principles
Students are expected to uphold:
- Respect: Treat others with dignity, courtesy, and fairness.
- Safety: Act in ways that protect health and safety—yours and others’.
- Integrity: Be honest in all interactions and learning activities.

- Procedural fairness: The College will address concerns using a fair, timely, and documented process.
4. Expected behaviours
Students are expected to:
- Follow College policies and reasonable directions from instructors/staff.
- Participate professionally in learning activities (see Attendance Policy). Communicate respectfully with classmates, instructors, staff, placement sites, and the public.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and professional conduct consistent with healthcare expectations.
- Use College property and systems responsibly for legitimate learning purposes.
- Comply with infection prevention and control requirements for a safe learning environment (for example: hand hygiene, PPE where required, and staying home when ill as appropriate).
- Protect privacy and confidentiality when handling personal information in case studies, assignments, or placements.
5. Prohibited conduct
The behaviours below are prohibited and may result in corrective action, up to and including suspension or expulsion. Examples include:
5.1 Safety, violence, and weapons
- Threatening, attempting, or committing physical violence (including intimidation).
- Possession, display, or use of weapons, replicas, or prohibited items at the College or during College activities.
- Any conduct that endangers the safety of students, staff, visitors, or the public.
5.2 Harassment, discrimination, bullying, and cyberbullying
- Harassment, discrimination, bullying, or cyberbullying that undermines dignity and safety.
- Racial harassment, sexual harassment, and harassment based on disability, religion, age, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, or any other protected ground.
- Retaliation or reprisal against any person who reports a concern or participates in an investigation in good faith.
5.3 Sexual violence and sexualized harassment
- Any form of sexual violence or sexualized harassment is strictly prohibited and is addressed under the College’s Sexual Violence & Harassment Policy and related procedures.
5.4 Substance use and impairment
- Being under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, or any substance that causes impairment while participating in College activities.
- Possessing, using, distributing, or selling illegal drugs or alcohol at the College or during College activities (except where lawful and expressly permitted by the College).
- Disrupting classes, assessments, online sessions, or College operations.
- Abusive language, hate speech, or persistent disrespectful behaviour.
- Unauthorized recording (audio/video) of classes, meetings, or individuals; or sharing recordings/screenshots without permission.
- Online misconduct including impersonation, allowing another person to participate in your place, or sharing login credentials.
5.6 Property, technology, and information security
- Theft, fraud, vandalism, or intentional damage to property.
- Unauthorized access to College systems, hacking, introducing malware, or bypassing security controls.
- Misuse of the College name, logo, or reputation in a misleading or unauthorized way.
5.7 Academic
misconduct
- Academic dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism, falsification, etc.) is addressed under the Academic Integrity section of the Academic Policy.
5.8 Misrepresentation
- Providing false, misleading, or incomplete information in admissions or academic documentation (including identity documents and prerequisites).
- Falsifying attendance, practicum hours, competency checklists, or required records.
6. Reporting concerns
and seeking support
- For urgent safety concerns, seek immediate help (e.g., call emergency services where appropriate).
- For non‑emergency matters, students may:
- Raise the concern with the instructor or staff member involved (when safe/appropriate), and/or
- Report to the Student Advisor/Campus Administrator, and/or
- Use the Student Complaint Procedure if a formal complaint is needed.
- Sexual violence matters must follow the Sexual Violence & Harassment Policy (including the supports listed in that policy).
7. Response process and procedural fairness
When the College becomes aware of an alleged breach, the College will
respond in a fair, timely, and documented manner. The College may:
- Gather information and review evidence (e.g., emails, LMS logs, witness statements).
- Meet with the student and provide an opportunity to respond.
- Implement interim measures to protect safety and the learning environment (e.g., temporary removal from a class/session, limitations on platform access) while a review is ongoing.
8. Corrective actions and outcomes
Outcomes depend on severity, context, impact, and prior conduct, and may
include:
- Verbal coaching or warning
- Written warning and/or behaviour expectations agreement
- Mandatory training, reflective work, or restorative actions (where appropriate)
- Restriction of access to spaces/systems
- Removal from an activity, lab, or online session
- Suspension
- Expulsion (see the Expulsion Policy)
9. Records and confidentiality
The College keeps appropriate records of conduct matters and decisions. Information is handled confidentially, subject to legal obligations, safety requirements, and the need to administer this policy.
