Standard Precautions and Occupational Health

CE-LTC-IPCC-SPOH-V1.0
Strengthen everyday infection prevention practices and help protect residents and staff through risk assessment, safe care, and timely reporting of occupational exposures.
Included in the IPAC Champions Program for Long-Term Care.

Course Description

Consistent infection prevention starts with the decisions staff make during everyday care. This course helps IPAC Champions understand Standard Precautions, the principles reflected in Canadian Routine Practices, and their connection to occupational health in long-term care.

Through practical examples and case activities, you will explore hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, respiratory hygiene, sharps safety, and equipment handling. You will also examine how staff illness, exposure incidents, supply gaps, and product sensitivities affect safe practice, and how Champions can reinforce safe habits and bring concerns to the appropriate team.
